U8 Schönleinstraße: back to nature
It seems like the U8 is too much of an interesting underground line:
After Bernauer Straße and Jannowitzbrücke
I worked my way south to Schönleinstraße and back to nature.
These great photographs take you away from the fast urban life
Being, again (as was U8 Bernauer Straße), part of the art project Kunst im Untergrund, however,
these photographs turn out to offer a particular twist and relation to Berlin: they document the construction of a stone wall with the letters THC (for tetrahydrocannabinol) - the psychoactive agent of marijuana. By building this wall and bringing its pictures to Berlin the artist, LEO, wants to create a connection to the Kreuzkölln (Kreuzberg-Neukölln) area where they are displayed and where you can see a THC graffity every so often (as for instance at the U6 Gneisenaustraße) - not to speak of the doubtful fame of the U8 as a place prefered by drug dealers.

And indeed it is an area in Northumberland close to the Scottisch border.

Although I quite like the photographs, I am not sure about that rather
constructed connection between Berlin and Northumberland - as much as I
would love to visit the latter one day.

U8 Jannowitzbrücke
It's time for a new train station: U8 Jannowitzbrücke
where one of the city's most notorious underground lines stops,
connecting Wedding in northern and Neukölln in southern Berlin.
Such as U2 Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz the station is decorated
with huge historical black and white photographies
dating from the 1880ies (above)
to the turn of the century, the 1930ies (below) and beyond.
The most recent pictures (below) still date back to the middle of the century,
the time when Germany was divided and Berlin Jannowitzbrücke belonged to the GDR.
Even the exit area is decorated with historical pictures
leading you outside to the Spree riverside.
