Under the slogan "Yes to the energy turnaround" all lights have been turned off at Brandenburger Tor at the Earth Hour 2013 yesterday - as in many other places all over the world.
The British singer-songwriter Ashley Hicklin sang his song City Lights while the WWF pandas danced along to stay warm in that incredible frostiness that this end of March day presented us with this weekend.
And both the lightening of the evening's logo and Hicklin's singing were only possible because a number of very brave people cycled an hour to provide the energy by sheer muscle power. At least they didn't freeze to ice sculptures as the rest of the audience.
I do hope that - despite all political instrumentalisations of energy related issues - events such as this help to raise our individual awareness for how we treat our planet's resources.
