art of living

and art of growing

Cambridge, UK

This picture was taken at Kettle's Yard - at one of my favourite places and museums I have been to so far. It isn't really a museum nor is it a mere cottage, or rather four of them in one. Rather, it is a place to experience, synaesthetically, space and objects. Art is living here, both literally and metaphorically - the place houses some very famous artists, a piece by Jean Miró in dialogue with crystal and a lemon amongst them. My favourite by far, however, is a simple pencil drawing by Elizabeth Vellacott that is at display next to the numerous plants and the magnifying glass above. It just shows a little hillside wood and it was its black and white simplicity in contrast to the exuberant living green around that immediately caught my eye. It seemed to belong there. Always has.
